Damage Loss Waiver Details
Today it is an unfortunate fact that plant theft is a multi-million pound criminal industry. Over the years we have experienced various losses even from the most unlikely places; a roller stolen straight off the hirer’s own driveway, a 10m telehandler from right outside a fire station, a digger and dumper from behind a block of flats in a cul-de-sac. It happens!
It is standard contractual practice throughout the entire hire industry for you, the hirer, to be responsible for the equipment hired. Kelsey Plant hire all plant under the Construction Plant Hire Associations conditions for trade and consumers. This responsibility is not just for the entire duration of the hire, but also until the plant has been collected. Other than what is considered to be “fair wear and tear” any site damage is also the responsibility of you, the hirer. In addition to the cost of the equipment, the hirer would also be contractually liable for 2/3 continuing hire charges until settlement has been received in full.
If you do not have your own ‘hired-in’ plant insurance Kelsey Plant Hire is now able to offer you CPA Hire Cover Plus for a small additional sum. This is a Loss or Damage waiver (and works in the same way as insurance), it is arranged through Oval Insurance Broking Ltd and is provided by Zurich Insurance Plc. The Loss or Damage waiver cost is 15% of the equipment hire rate and is not subject to the normal 20% VAT. There are a few terms and conditions and a scale of excess charges (see below) depending on the loss or damage claim value but all in all when you consider that it could cost between £12,000 and £60,000 to replace a digger depending on its size the waiver is a small price to pay for peace of mind. (See PDF files below for details)
When hiring expensive equipment we respectfully ask you to consider the possible huge financial implications of your responsibility as hirer and strongly advise you to cover yourself with the Loss / Damage Waiver or to obtain your own ‘hired-in’ plant insurance. Kelsey Plant Hire reserves the right to refuse a hire unless some form of cover is in place.
